Bibliography on Patient Safety

The LINNEAUS collaboration has commissioned and completed an up to date (November 2010) bibliography on patient safety in primary care. The project brief was to undertake a literature search on key patient safety related issues. The project focused on EU Patient Safety and therefore research on this issue within the European Union member countries was a key target for the literature search. The literature search brief also included a requirement to identify the other key countries and research publications on this issue. A wide range of databases including Embase and Medline were searched to ensure that relevant research from other disciplines (management, economics, psychology) was included.

The literature search identified 235 references published between 1992 and 2010. The majority of the patient safety research identified has been undertaken in the United States of America. However, there is a growing body of research in countries such as Australia, Canada and some European Union countries, notably Germany and the United Kingdom.

To facilitate the widespread distribution of the research articles and reports identified by the literature search we have created a reference database using Zotero. This open-source software is described as “a free, easy-to-use tool to help you collect, organize, cite, and share your research sources. It lives right where you do your work—in the web browser itself”.

We have made the bibliography file available to download from here. This file can also be used in databases such as Endnote and Reference Manager. We will also set up an account on Zotero in the near future so that user can access this bibliography online.
